Cloud WLAN Security & Cloud WLAN Controller - Getting Started Guide

1. Navigate to http://manage.wlancontroller.com and login using your account credentials. If you don't have an account you can request one here.


2. Once logged in navigate to the Client Download tab to download latest WLANController Virtual Access Point client software.



3. Install the WLANController Virtual Access Point client software on any Windows 7, Vista, or XP computer. For Mac OS, launch from dock or locate wlancontroller.app file and start.

4. After the installation completes launch the wancontroller.exe from the desktop shortcut or C:/Program Files/WLANController/wlancontroller.exe folder on 32 bit operating systems and C:/Program Files x86/WLANController/wlancontroller.exe on 64 bit operating systems.

5. Configure the WLANController Virtual Access Point client by clicking the Settings menu option and entering the Profile ID, Profile Key, Server Host (manage.wlancontroller.com) and click Save.

For MAC OS click red WLANController icon in menu bar on right side.

Enter your profile ID and Key and click apply.

 

Click on menu bar icon and select status to confirm operation of app.


6. Check Active Devices tab to see newly added devices. If devices did not automatically get activated then check the Available Devices tab. Click Refresh to see inactive devices.

7. Select the operation(s) that you want your device(s) to perform.


8. Check the box next to the device and click Activate to move the device to the Active Devices tab.

9. Once "Activated" the windows computer can be used as a Wired and WiFi scanner (Windows 7, Vista, XP) and WiFi access point (Windows 7). You can also choose to email scan results to your account.

10. At the top you will be able to provide the machine name (default name is the device's wired MAC address), SSID, and WPA key.



11. Under the Access Point tab select the check box for the device again and from the Select Command drop down menu select Start and click Run Command to start the WiFi virtual access point.



12. Click Refresh to confirm the command was sent successfully.

13. The Windows 7 device is now operating as a WiFi access point in the background allowing the network connection to be shared wirelessly with anyone that knows the SSID and WPA key. NOTE: The Mac OS App Store version of app does not support WiFi access point mode at this time. It only supports scanner mode.

14. To use this device as a WiFi scanner navigate to the Wireless Scan tab and select one or more devices and click the Send Scan command and then Get Scan Result to view the discovered wireless devices.


15. Account information such as billing, subscription type and contact information can be viewed and edited under Account tab.

16. Users can choose to receive email alerts when a scan is performed and the RSSI threshold is exceeded.

17. Right click on the main folder in order to create new sub groups. There is no limit to the number of groups created. In order to add a device to a folder, simply drag the desired device on to the folder. Double click on the folder to view the devices in it. The name of the folder can also be    changed by right-clicking on it and selecting “Rename Group”.

        

        18. Double click on the main folder to expand the topology. Right click on a device and select “Add Device to Map” from the menu. The device location on the map will be based on the coordinates in the available devices tab. In order to change the location of a device, simply drag the icon on the map to a desired location.
